What 176 Transcripts Tell Us About Tom Emmer’s 2025
A data-driven look at who he talks to, what he talks about, and what he's actually gotten done.
I built a tool that tracks exactly what your member of Congress says on camera — who they talk to, what they talk about, and how often they show up.
It’s called the MN-06 Watch Transcript Analyzer. I pointed it at a full year of Tom Emmer’s media appearances, and the picture it paints is worth sharing.
The Numbers
Between January 1 and December 31, 2025, I logged 176 transcripts totaling 18 hours and 29 minutes of Tom Emmer on the record. That’s across 34 unique networks and outlets.
Here’s where it gets interesting.
Who He Talks To
Of those 176 appearances, 45% were on conservative media — Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network, Salem Radio, 77 WABC. Just 6.8% were on liberal-leaning outlets like CNN or MSNBC. The remaining 48% were neutral — mostly press conferences and official speeches.
His top outlet by far? Press conferences and speeches (~55 appearances), followed by Fox News Channel (~28) and Fox Business Network (~22). After that, the numbers drop sharply. CNBC, ABC, and 77 WABC each account for roughly 5-8 appearances.
In other words: when Emmer isn’t at a podium reading prepared remarks, he’s overwhelmingly choosing friendly territory.
What He Talks About
The topics chart is where the real story lives.
Emmer’s #1 subject in 2025? Government funding — by a wide margin. That’s followed by House leadership and Minnesota, which are roughly tied. After that: Tim Walz, law enforcement, ICE, immigration.
Notice what’s missing from the top of that list? Anything specific to the 6th District. No talk about local infrastructure, local economic development, or the concerns of the communities he actually represents. “Minnesota” makes the top three, but that’s a broad category — and it shares space with national-stage topics like Hakeem Jeffries, Chuck Schumer, and government shutdowns.
The policy categories tell the same story. Government & Leadership dominates, followed by State & District Issues — but even that category skews toward attacks on Minnesota leaders and happens outside of his district rather than district-specific work. Economy, immigration, and crime round out the top five.
This is a House Majority Whip talking like a House Majority Whip — not a representative of Minnesota’s 6th.
What He’s Actually Getting Done
The media appearances tell you where Emmer’s attention is. The legislative record tells you what it’s producing.
In 10 years in Congress, Emmer has sponsored 127 bills. Of those, 115 died in committee without ever receiving a vote. Three became law. His overall success rate: 2.4%.
Of those 3 bills that became law? Two were post office namings.
So when you see him on Fox talking about government funding and House leadership, keep in mind: this is a congressman with a decade-long track record of introducing legislation that goes nowhere — and spending his airtime talking about everything except the 6th District.
Try It Yourself
The Transcript Analyzer is live and free to use right now. You can filter by date range, explore the topic breakdowns, see the media friendliness data, and dig into the specifics yourself.
This is the kind of tool I wish existed for every member of Congress. If you find it valuable, share it. And if you want to see this approach scaled beyond MN-06 — stay tuned.
